This is Kareena’s fifth film.

Produced by ARCLIGHTZ and directed by SANTOSH SIVAN.

This is a period film about the reign of King Ashoka. Kareena portrays the character of Queen KAURWAKI, wife of King ASHOKA.

Kareena is paired opposite SHAHRUKH KHAN. Her other co-stars are Hrishita Bhatt and Rahul Dev.

Released in October 2001.

THE FILM-

This is a historical movie about King Ashoka, his reign, his life, how he converted to Buddhism…etc. Kareena Kapoor is the wife of King Ashoka (Shahrukh Khan), i.e. Queen Kauryaki. This film has a good script but is not well directed. All the actors have done a very good job. Kareena looks simply superb in her role and acts with great spontaneity. Though this film was a disaster in India, it did quite well abroad in London, U.S.A, etc. and this film had also been selected for nomination in the OSCARS in competition with Aamir Khan’s LAGAAN.
